Chandigarh a union territory located at the foothills of the grand Shivalik range.  One of the incredible cities in the world in terms of architecture, cultural growth, modernization, education, the grand structures and the magnificent gardens. The master urban design of the city was prepared by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier, A vibrant city surrounded by trees offers relaxing time for nature lovers.



Chandigarh rock garden is an epitome of creativity located in Sector 1 between the Capitol Complex and Sukhna Lake. It is founded by Nek Chand, who was the Road Inspector in the Engineering Department of Chandigarh Capital Project.   With its 2,000 statutes and waterfalls, the Rock Garden remains a legendary work of art and tourist attraction; it’s the best specimen of waste material to create a fascinating garden onto 40 acres of land. It is easily accessible by public transport and cab.



Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, India, is a reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas; it is spread across 3 SQ km best viewed during sunset.  Sukhna Lake is the venue for many festive celebrations and sanctuary for many exotic migratory birds.  The Lake, which was the venue for the Asian Rowing Championships, has the longest channel for rowing and yachting events in Asia.  A boat ride, joyrides, and mini-train for children are famous activities to do. It is a good hangout place with friends, family or even couples can enjoy peace and silence in the lap of nature.



It is the home of a countless number of flowers with exquisite beauty and orderly gardens. The largest Rose Garden in Asia. It is spread over an area of 27 acres and has more than 17000 plants representing some 1600 varieties of roses.  Along with the roses, an emphasis was also given to the trees of medicinal value and some unique species of trees to enhance the beauty of the garden. The annual “Festival of Gardens” is organized in the Rose Garden in the month of February and is listed in the “National Calendar of Events”.



The Government Museum and Art Gallery came into existence when the country was partitioned, is located in Sector 10-c. It dedicated to natural history, art, architecture, and portraits. Its collection includes over 4000 Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings, and over 600 Buddhist Sculptures from the Gandhara region in present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan.  The museum is approximately 2 1/2 km’s from the bus stand, 9 km’s from the railway station and 12 km’s from the Chandigarh airport. To reach Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10-C, Chandigarh from the Bus Stand in Sector 17, either one can take a cycle rickshaw, auto or a local bus (no. 1, 10, 31, 75, 123, and 149).



ChattBir Zoo (formally Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park), is a zoological park situated close to Zirakpur, India and is an abode to a large variety of birds, mammals, and reptiles. The lion safari is the most interesting part about the Chattbir Zoo. The zoo consists of around 950 animals as well as birds which belong to around 85 species. Royal Bengal Tiger catches the attraction of people.  The environment in Chattbir gives one relief from city life and it seems so great to be in such lush green garden and spending time in nature’s lap while viewing its creations.




The Open Hand Monument is a symbolic structure located in the Indian Union Territory Chandigarh India, designed by the architect Le Corbusier. It is the symbol of the Government of Chandigarh and symbolizes “the hand to give and the hand to take; peace and prosperity, and the unity of mankind”, it is open to give and open to receive. Chandigarh, where the Open Hand is located, is well connected by road, rail, and air services. NH 22 (Ambala – Kalka- Shimla – Khab, Kinnaur) and NH 21 (Chandigarh –Manali) pass through the city.



Elante Mall is a shopping mall in the city of Chandigarh Designed by ‘Woodhead’, the popular architectural firm from Australia. With the gross leasable area of 1,150,000 sq ft, it is the second largest shopping mall in Northern India and the third largest in India. In 2013 the mall was burning 6000 liters of diesel daily due to a lack of electricity connection to the grid. One could enjoy shopping, entertainment as well as office spaces – all under one roof. It hosts various Indian and international brands. Elante boasts of a great food court, a wonderful courtyard full of cafes, sports bar and a Fun City on the top floor which has large numbers of games for all age groups.  The Mall has an 8-screen Multiplex of PVR Cinemas.



Tower of Shadow built by the creator of Chandigarh Mr. Le Corbusier located close to the Legislative Assembly in the Capitol Complex. This airy, partially-open pavilion is a symbolic structure which reflects Le Corbusier’s interest in studying the penetration of sunlight inside a building.  It traces the path of the sun through shadows. it is easily accessible by public transport.



Chandigarh Golf Club is an exclusive private member-only golf club in Chandigarh. It is located just south of Sukhna Lake and adjacent to the residence of Punjab Governer in Sector 6. India 7,202 –yard, 18 holes, and par 72 courses is known for its tight fairways. The club has been home to some fine professional golfers, the most noted being Jeev Milkha Singh, the first Indian to compete on the European Tour and at the Masters. The club has a fine clubhouse, a swimming pool and a gymnasium for its 2300 members. Membership is notoriously difficult to get, with waiting periods running into tens of years.
